The 90’s careless fashion

Every time I look at some pictures taken by a Los Angeles advertising photographer, somewhere in Santa Barbara, in the 90’s, I feel a little bit nostalgic. The 90’s have an amazing fashion vibe, that’s not only about the denim and the high waist leather pants. It is also about the attitude people had, back in time. Everyone was just cool and there were no social media. The Polaroid pictures of friends, drinking Coke and riding skateboards are to me, more fashionable than the whole blog of some fashion diva, today. Social media and paparazzi have taken away one of the most precious things about fashion and generally, about everything, and I’m talking here about accessibility. In the 90’s the access to fashion and to styles was limited. People tried so hard to look and be cool, despite the fact that it was not so easy to figure out the trends. And when they did figure out them, they felt so good about the style they had, people were extremely confident and just happy.

Sometimes, looking at 90’s pictures of celebrities, trying to create some fashion bombs, can make you laugh hard. Remember the super famous Britney and Justin denim moment?? Well, the 90’s are full of these kinds of style bombs. Also, there is always a big nostalgia about the times when Kate Moss and Johnny Depp made sensations with their easy and careless style. That’s what I’m talking about. Back then, people were all about looking free and careless. The mandatory straps down thing, made the hot boys  wear no shirt underneath, for extra coolness. Isn’t this screaming freedom?  Or the bleached hair… and again, I’m talking about Justin’s suicide blonde. The terry cloth wristbands, hand bands and the chain wallets were some really freaking weird accessories. But somehow, they made their way into the loved trends. Also, the stripped sweaters that were absolutely adored by Kurt Cobain and Freddie Krueger, were a total must.

Looking back, makes you want to try again, those Neon jackets and some unbuttoned shirts over graphic tees. The 90’s fashion was weird and beautiful in its own careless way.
