The Unique Career Paths of Victoria’s Secret Models

Victoria’s Secret marketing approach has diverged significantly from that of other retailers, turning what New York Magazine highlights as faceless models into celebrities in their own right. This launch into stardom enables both current and former Victoria’s Secret Angels to pursue a wide array of other career opportunities, including everything from reality television to the development of organic skin care products.

Since her launch as a Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2000, Adriana Lima has enjoyed a wide and varied career. She still participates in the annual Victoria’s Secret show, with her yearly appearances sparking great interest among those with bundles from Internet and TV companies. During her time as a Victoria’ Secret model, Lima also took up a side gig as the spokesperson for Maybelline.

Heidi Klum’s transition away from modeling involved a seamless move into the world of reality television. First, the German beauty offered up excellent fashion advice as both a host and judge on “Project Runway.” From there, she moved on to “America’s Got Talent,” where she, along with former Spice Girls sensation Mel B, provided excellent feedback to singers, magicians, escape artists an a variety of other acts. The Daily Mail views Klum as a welcome addition to “America’s Got Talent,” as she’s always willing to offer up constructive criticism that’s actually helpful. Because of her ability to connect with both contestants and viewers, Klum was quickly asked back to film a second season of “America’s Got Talent,” an offer she quickly accepted.

When she’s not on the runway or involved in a photo shoot, Miranda Kerr enjoys promoting the organic lifestyle. She has accomplished this not only through maintaining a healthy diet, but also by spearheading KORA Organics, a line of organic skin care products. KORA’s products include multiple three-step systems for a variety of skin types, as well as various cleansers, toners, eye creams and facial masks. Originally sold through David Jones department stores, KORA’s lineup later moved to competitor Myer, according to the Daily Telegraph. Future plans could include Kerr as a part of the Myer ambassador team.

Perhaps the best known of the original Angels, Tyra Banks has achieved quite a bit of success in her post Victoria’s Secret career. In addition to serving as the host of the popular show “America’s Next Top Model,” Banks briefly served as the host of the very popular “Tyra” show. In early seasons, the show focused on a wide array of controversial women’s issues, many of which tied into “America’s Next Top Model.” Later season of the “Tyra” show took on more of a tabloid format, which, according to some critics, ultimately led to the show’s downfall. However, as Perez Hilton points out, the show’s demise ultimately was Banks’ decision, as she hoped to free up more time to work as a producer.
