Sometimes you can get caught up putting together an outfit that you may either overlook finishing touches or worse, follow trends instead of your personality. Seek out unique jewelry that exemplifies your inner beauty and in turn, boosts your outer confidence. Remember, fashion is about the clothes whereas style is your unique stamp on your look.

Psychology of Fashion

Your particular choice of fashion tends to reveal certain characteristics of your personality. Learning what type of personality you have can explain a lot about many aspects of your life, including your sense of fashion.

There are five major characteristics measured in personality tests: openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. These traits are referred to as OCEAN for short.

Personality traits are the reasons behind the choices you make and are important to understand your specific and unique style.

If your score on the openness section of the evaluation is high, it’s indicative of having a more flamboyant style with vibrant colors and bold statement clothing articles. Inversely, a lower openness score leans towards more conservative and classic choices.

More conscientious people, with regards to the personality test, are detail-oriented, goal-driven, and tend to follow the rules. High scorers in this area also tend to lean towards a more classic look than avant-garde. They opt for a cleaner, traditional look. If you are lower on this spectrum you’ll be a more relaxed person who typically also lacks some discipline, is more disorganized, often late, and more prone to impulsive choices.

Don’t worry if you find you are somewhere between the two extremes when taking such tests. It’s more common than not, to be among the grey area and not entirely one extreme or the other. The point of the test isn’t to tell you how to act or what to wear, but more to explain why you make the choices you do, in many aspects of your life. It boils down to the people who score on the higher end of openness, conscientiousness and extraversion tend to be more outgoing and flamboyant than the lower scorers.

Regardless of your style and the fashion you choose, they should always reflect who you are as a person. Don’t be afraid to express yourself and let your inner beauty shine through.
