Cold morning commutes and chilly evenings when a denim just won’t do. These are the signs that the AW season is here. And whilst our summer tans begin to shed and our seasonal fling with woollen things reconvenes, our wardrobes are screaming for a makeover.

Winter weather may be harsh and unforgiving (and a nightmare for dry skin), but it’s the perfect excuse to get cosy in our favourite baggy knits and oversized jumpers. If you’re looking for style inspiration, take a look at some of the key  fashion trends for AW17 and beyond.

  1. Furry, Fluffy & Feathery

That’s right knitwear fans. This year’s cosy wardrobe pieces are getting the triple F makeover. Fluff, faux fur and feathers. Embellished and clothes with all the trimmings are the only way to go. And according to designers such as Miuccia Prada, marabou trims on sweaters is all the rage. More is more, so don’t be afraid to channel your best Big Bird impression.

Catwalk collections from Marni, Prada and Sonia Rykiel all feature beautiful, multi-dimensional pieces adorned with feathers and all sort of fluffy goodness. So ‘casuals’ will no longer feel so understated.

  1. Red From Head to Toe

Last year, runways embraced forest green, with looks that featured matchy matchy layers to celebrate the season’s favourite hue. This year, block colour fanatics get to ogle at the colour of passion, fire and danger.

If you love bold colours, it’s time to get on board with this season’s hottest shade. Red from head to toe is the look to go for if you want to turn heads. And long woollen coats, oversized dusters and show-stopping overcoats are just the start. Because same colour shoes, bag and red-as-scarlet underlayers will fetch you top marks with the high fashion crowd.

‘Too much’ is just enough when it comes to red wardrobe pieces this year. If you have the confidence, style them together in AW17 for maximum colour impact. The beauty of it is that you can always wear them as separates in future seasons when the head to toe trend is well and truly over.

  1. Luxe Faux Fur

Faux has never been beautiful. With many designer and high street styles now PETA approved for animal lovers. These days, faux is a total luxury, not a poor girl’s minx number. And wearers should be proud to style their creature-friendly fashion items out in public.

Take style tips from Simone Rocha and wear your fur coat oversized and bouncy. Get 60s retro with Miu Miu’s huge collars. Or opt for femininity and elegance with understated faux fur accessories.
